ABOUT US

The Instituto de Tecnologías para la Sostenibilidad (ITPS) was founded on September 29, 2023 (Governing Council of Universidad Rey Juan Carlos – Article 41.2 of Organic Law 2/2023 of the University System) with a clear purpose: to become a benchmark in research and innovative solutions for a sustainable future.

At ITPS, we believe that sustainability is the key to progress and social well-being. That is why we promote projects that bring together science, technology, and innovation to transform social and industrial sectors.

We focus on addressing major environmental, social, and economic challenges through initiatives such as:

  • Responsible management of waste and effluents.

  • Use of recyclable and multifunctional materials.

  • Development of more efficient and sustainable technologies.

  • Promotion of clean and renewable energies.

We work in line with the sustainability strategies of Spain and the European Union, promoting the responsible and efficient use of renewable resources.

Through our commitment, we contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the UN in 2015 and endorsed by 193 countries, including Spain.

With our research lines and projects, we address the following SDGs:

  • SDG 3: Good health and well-being.
  • SDG 4: Quality education .
  • SDG 5: Gender equality.
  • SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation.
  • SDG 7: Affordable and clean energy.
  • SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth.
  • SDG 9: Industry, innovation, and infrastructure.
  • SDG 10: Reduced inequalities.
  • SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities.
  • SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production.
  • SDG 13: Climate action.

At ITPS, we are committed to the future. Every step forward, every piece of research, and every project we develop shares the same goal: to create a fairer, cleaner, and more sustainable tomorrow for all
