Pedro Alberto Poza Gómez
The research activity was initiated in 1993, in the Polytechnic University of Madrid, with special dedication to the microstructural (TEM, SEM and AFM) and mechanical characterization of materials. In 1998 Prof. Poza was post-doctoral researcher in the Materials Department at Oxford University, where he improved his skills on materials characterization by electron microscopy, in particular TEM, and started to investigate industrial coatings. Prof. Poza joined the Rey Juan Carlos University in 2002 and he has been Head of the Department of Mechanical Technology from 2011 to 2014, when the department was merged. The research activity was initially focused on the mechanical behaviour of metal and ceramic matrix composites and directionally solidified materials with functional, like high temperature superconductors, and structural, like eutectic ceramic fibres, applications. Finally, the investigation has been focussed, during the last years, on the processing, characterization, and modelling of coatings for industrial applications, simulating the operating conditions in industrial sectors like transport or power generation. The development of coatings for thermal solar applications has been one of the main research lines since 2008. Cold Sprayed materials have been a priority since 2014. This research line was started at Oxford University and has been the main activity of Prof. Poza since he joined the Rey Juan Carlos University. The research has been funded through more than 30 grants from the Spanish National Science Foundation, European Union (Brite-Euram, 7th Framework, Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe programmes) and the local government (Comunidad de Madrid) as well as through more than 25 contracts with major Spanish industrial enterprises (Abengoa, Airbus, ITP, Acciona ...). Prof. Poza is author of more than 85 scientific papers, published in journals included in the Science Citation Index (h-index 27, WOK database); and more than 85 communications have been presented in international (53) and national conferences. In addition, the research activity was also developed in the United Kingdom, at Oxford University, in a project sponsored by Rolls-Royce aerospace and led by Professor Patrick Grant and Professor Brian Cantor. Actually, Prof. Poza is the responsible from the URJC within the doctoral network "REfurbishment and additive MAnufacturing accomplished by Kinetic dEposition" (RE-MAKE) (HORIZON-MSCA-2022-DN-01. Project Number. 101119988) funded by the EU. In addition, Prof. Poza was responsible of the project COld spray Radical Solutions for Aeronautic Improved Repairs, (CORSAIR) funded by the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme (grant agreement n° ACS3-GA-2013-605207). The research activity more related to the productive sector has led to a patent, property of Abengoa, which demonstrates the technology transfer developed. Prof. Poza was favourably evaluated in 2008 within the I3 Program ("Programa de Incentivación de la Incorporación e Intensificación de la Actividad Investigadora"). Prof. Poza has been the supervisor of 8 PhD Thesis.
