Jesús Rodríguez Pérez

Jesús Rodríguez is an ITPS member since its creation. He is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos and Head of the research group on Durability and Mechanical Integrity of Structural Materials.

Jesús completed his doctoral thesis in 1993, working on the development of methodologies for the mechanical characterization of materials at high strain rates. His main lines of research are the mechanical characterization of materials, tribology, contact mechanics, and fracture mechanics. His main scientific contributions have been focused on the mechanical behaviour of materials at different scales and conditions, from nanoscale to macroscale and from quasi-static testing at high strain rates. Regarding structural integrity, his contributions to the study of fracture and fatigue in polymeric materials and, more recently, hydrogels and soft materials stand out.

During his career, he has supervised 10 PhD thesis and has been principal investigator on numerous projects funded through competitive calls from the Spanish National Science Foundation, Spanish Ministry of Defense, local government (Comunidad de Madrid) as well as through contracts with major Spanish industrial companies (Abengoa, Repsol, Acciona, etc). He is the author of approximately 120 publications in JCR-indexed journals. He has completed research stays at the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, and Harvard University, the latter as a Fulbright scholar.
