José Luis Díaz de Tuesta

Dr. Jose Luis Diaz de Tuesta is a postdoctoral researcher with an R3 certificate issued by the State Research Agency. He has a strong international presence, having completed three research stays with scholarships, accumulated nearly six years of contracts abroad, and achieved 72.9% of his publications through international collaboration, according to SciVal metrics. He has participated in up to ten research projects (one as co-PI and two currently as PI) and has received five competitive scholarships (FPU, Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus - 4th Edition of Portugal, Talent Attraction - Modality 2, Talent Attraction 2022 - Modality 1, and, most recently, Research Consolidation 2024).
His completed and ongoing research projects have equipped him with various scientific and technical skills in the preparation, modification, characterization, and application of nano- and macro-structured catalysts and adsorbents from different waste materials. These include carbon monoliths (bilateral Germany-Portugal agreement), carbon-coated nanoparticles (RTChip4Theranostics project), carbon nanotubes from plastic waste (PLASTIC_TO_FUEL&MAT project), and biochars from compost and biomass (VALORCOMP project), among others. All designed materials have been evaluated in advanced oxidation processes and adsorption for the treatment of gaseous or liquid effluents. Notably, he is currently leading (Principal Investigator) the SLA3DPrintC4eWATER and ElectroPrintC research projects, which focus on structured carbon supports and their applications.
Until 2024, he has published 61 research articles in international journals indexed in Scopus and/or Web of Science (61.7% in Q1), one national article in Portugal, one book chapter, and one book (ISBN 978-601-08-1741-8). According to his Scopus ID (57460167200), his h-index is 19, with an average of 151 citations per year over the last five years (2019-2023). Additionally, he has delivered 176 conference presentations (140 between 2019 and 2023, including three as an invited speaker and 49 oral presentations at international conferences). He has also served as a session moderator twice and has been an invited speaker at eight other events, such as schools and workshops. He is a topic editor for the journals Catalyst and Latin American Applied Research and has served as a guest editor for four special issues.
